A Glimpse Into My World
Born in Malaysia, I grew up in humble beginnings and was raised by my mother who had adopted me from a family of 13. My mother, who was single, figured out a successful and sustainable model to bring me up in a village surrounded by community. Inspired by her and a few other influential people in my life, I felt called to discover more of me.
In 1989, I came to the United States thanks to a music scholarship which opened up new pathways for me. My journey has given me many experiences which have deepened my understanding of what it means to be a human on this earth.
I currently live in the heart of Oakland, California near the nation’s oldest wildlife refuge. These days, I enjoy the simple moments of being present. My entire being feels filled and at peace when I color, draw mandalas, watch birds, and play my singing bowl. As I continue to evolve, I am increasingly aware that this life is precious and I am so very curious of its unfolding. I am truly grateful to all of my teachers and to every visitor in my life, as everyone has been a gift.
The Rat Race
“I don’t want to join the rat race.
Not be enslaved by machines,
bureaucracies, boredom, ugliness.
I don’t want to be a moron, robot, commuter.
I don’t want to become a fragment of a person.
I want to do my own thing.
I want to live (relatively simply).
I want to deal with people, not with masks.
People matter. Nature matters.
Beauty matters. Wholeness matters.
I want to be able to care.”
~ E. F. Schumacher
“What you can plan is too small for you to live.
What you can live wholeheartedly will make
plans enough for the vitality hidden in your sleep.”
- David Whyte
